Mother Lode

As the title indicates, the consuming issue in Mother Lode is a search for gold. The picture is not without shortcomings, but is long on good performances, charismatic people in the three principal roles, compelling outdoor aerial sequences in the Cassiar Mountains of British Columbia and high-level suspense throughout.

Charlton Heston Nick Mancuso Kim Basinger John Marley Dale Wilson

As the title indicates, the consuming issue in Mother Lode is a search for gold. The picture is not without shortcomings, but is long on good performances, charismatic people in the three principal roles, compelling outdoor aerial sequences in the Cassiar Mountains of British Columbia and high-level suspense throughout.

The role of Silas McGee, the disreputable Scottish miner trying to protect his great secret find, is a switch to villainy for Charlton Heston, but he relishes the role and even makes a creditable pass at a thick Scottish brogue. Nick Mancuso, as the bush-pilot protagonist who would delve the secret location of the lode at any cost, is the character around which the suspense must swirl, and he manages to keep matters tense to the very end.

Kim Basinger, the only femme in the picture, provides the reason for some unusual plot twists, and comes across as a beauteous screen personality.
