Robert Aldrich’s Twilight’s Last Gleaming is intricate, intriguing and intelligent drama. Filmed in Munich, the setting is the US.

Burt Lancaster stars as a cashiered US Air Force officer who seizes a nuclear missile site to force public disclosure of secret Vietnam war policy goals. Charles Durning is outstanding as a US president who must respond to the challenge.

A Walter Wager novel, Viper Three, has been adapted into a suspenseful and taut confrontation.

Outside, Richard Widmark mobilizes for the forcible recapture of the base, while in the White House, Durning assembles his top military and Cabinet advisors to ponder Lancaster’s demands.
