Power of Women NY: Claire Danes Lends a Hand to Afghan Women

Claire Danes was feted for her work with Afghan Hands, a nonprofit her makeup artist Matin Maulawizada launched in 2009 to teach Afghan widows artisan skills that help them gain independence, literacy and a livelihood. Women learn to create embroidered shawls and scarves at centers located in and near Kabul.

“He understands how powerless women are in his homeland,” Danes said about Maulawizada.
