Dominic Cooke explained how his latest film, Saoirse Ronan-starrer “On Chesil Beach,” explores love at the Variety Studio at the Dubai International Film Festival.
Cooke explained that the time period of “On Chesil Beach,” which is based on the 2007 novel by Ian McEwan and focuses on a young couple on their honeymoon, greatly affects the two leads’ perspectives.
“The movie’s saying that love is complicated,” Cooke said. “And there is, in a way, a sense of how we feel is really determined by the time and place in which we live…[McEwan] set the story just before the ’60s…so you kind of think that if these people were born four years later, the whole experience of love would be different.”
