Amy Emmerich, chief content officer at digital media company Refinery 29, says networks are afraid to take chances on projects that they deem “too female.”
“The term ‘it’s too female’ is still something networks say on a daily basis, as someone who was a network development exec,” she said. “That term would be used all the time: ‘It’s too female.’ I’m now in a universe where I’m like, ‘I just don’t understand what that even means.'”
Emmerich was joined by Chloe Sevigny as part of Variety and Kering’s Women in Motion series at the Cannes Film Festival.
