In embarking on “Jackie,” director Pablo Larrain wasn’t interested in showing one side of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Instead, he wanted to show all the parts of her “complicated reality,” star Natalie Portman said at the Variety Screening Series presented by AARP, also joined by Larrain.
Portman said the “beauty” of the director’s approach is that he wasn’t trying to “give a definitive identity” to the former first lady.
“It’s like life, and it’s like human beings. They’re a million different things at once,” she said. “It can both wise and strong and authoritative and also manipulative and also not completely straightforward. It can be many things at once and it’s a complicated reality.”
