Many female professionals in Hollywood have their own stories of sexism to tell, and at Variety and Kering’s Women in Motion talk at the Cannes Film Festival, producer Celine Rattray shared her own.
Rattray recalled that, while on a shoot with a male cinematographer, she stressed to him the importance of moving quickly to stay on schedule. She said that when she walked away, the D.P. turned to his all-male crew and said, “Maybe we’d be moving quicker if there weren’t so many women in charge.”
Rattray’s story elicited gasps from the crowd. “I think that the camera department tends to be very old school and very traditional,” she added.
