Casey Affleck on Why It Helped to Be ‘A Little Bit Scared’ of ‘Manchester by the Sea’

Does taking on Kenneth Lonergan’s “Manchester by the Sea” scare Casey Affleck? “Yes, I’m intimidated, for sure,” Affleck said of the Sundance hit.

The actor discussed working with Lonergan and the upcoming drama at the Variety and AARP Movies for Grownups Screening Series on Dec. 1.

“I somehow get off on the fear, a little bit,” Affleck went on. “I like feeling a little bit scared of it and that I’m not quite up to it, because then I know I’ll either fail and I’ll know that it was out of my reach a little bit anyway, so who cares? Or I will succeed and I will have grown quite a bit.”
