Who Got it:Henry Cavill Who Else was in the mix: Cavill was also the choice after he blew Warner Bros. execs away with his testing but given how big the part was, Warners was always going to look at others as well. Some of the actors that tested for the part included "White Collar" star Matt Bomer and "True Blood" thesp Joe Manganiello but in the end it was Cavill who would don the red cape.
Who Got It: Rebecca Hall Who else was in the mix: Jessica Chastain had an offer and was in early talks to take this role but scheduling with her Broadway play forced her to pass. Hall is given plenty to do the film but you wonder what Marvel would of done from a marketing campaign had the Oscar nominated actress in the film. Hall wasn't on any of the posters and was barely in the TV spots and trailer so maybe Chastain's participation changes that direction.
Who got it: Joel Edgerton Who else was in the mix: Edgerton almost steals the spotlight in almost every scene he is in but the interesting part is he has the film "Argo" to thank for that opportunity. Ben Affleck was in talks to play the part but prep work on "Argo" got in the way and he had to move on. Affleck and DiCaprio are currently producing Affleck's next helming gig "Live By Night" but are still looking for their first film to act in together.
Who got it: Benedict Cumberbatch Who else was in the mix: What everyone seems to forget is that J.J. Abrams had wanted a Hispanic actor to play the role of the villain before changing his mind and not caring what ethnicity the villain was. Early on in the casting process Abrams had zeroed in on Benicio del Toro for the role of the villain in the film and when that deal fell through showed interest in Edgar Ramirez and "Elite Squad" star Wagner Moura.
Who got it: John Goodman Who else was in the mix: Offers were never formally made to anyone else but Goodman but prior to that the studio was aiming for an A-list star to get the small juicy role. Some of the actors whose name were thrown around included Robert Downey Jr. and Sean Penn. Downey shared ties with Todd Phillips after working with them on "Due Date" and Penn had just done "Gangster Squad" with Warners so it makes sense the studio originally went after a larger than life figure for such a small role.
Who got it: Luke Evans Who else was in the mix: (SPOILER ALERT) Evans obviously made an impression with Uni execs since he is now set to star in "Dracula" for the studio but originally the studio wanted a star and offered the role to Jason Statham. The irony is even though a deal couldn't be worked out for this film, it seems Statham had a change of heart with an appearance during the end credits and a hint of his involvement in the seventh installment.
Who got it: Svetlana Khodchenkova Who else was in the mix:Fox wanted one more star to pair with Hugh Jackman given that most of the cast are Japanese and Jessica Biel was that choice. It didn't work out and Fox went with the relatively unknown Khodchenkova but had it worked it would have given Biel the rare dark turn auds had not seen from the startlet.
Who Got it: Mark Walhberg Who was in the mix: When Universal originally picked up the project it was a Vince Vaughn starring vehicle with David O. Russell attached to direct. The studio didn't like that direction, which led to Vaughn leaving and Mark Wahlberg coming in. With Denzel Washington on board as well, the project has a "Lethal Weapon" feel to it -but you have to wonder if the project would have looked the same or had more of a goofy comedy feel to it that usually comes with Vaughn's talents.
