At the March 19 Arclight preem of “The Host,” opinion was firmly in favor of inter-space romance. “If it keeps them happy, why not?” star Saoirse Ronan offered at the Lure afterparty.
Helmer Andrew Niccol shared that view, saying Open Road’s sci-fi pic has “got a message about co-existence, whether with different ethnicities or with space.”
On a more serious note, he spoke of tackling Stephenie Meyer’s very different novel, which bears little resemblance to her hugely popular “Twilight Saga.”
“In my naivete I didn’t think too much about bringing the book as a picture,” he said. “I hope fans of ‘Twilight’ don’t go thinking it is ‘Twilight’ and understand it’s ‘The Host.’ ”
Open Road’s Tom Ortenberg said, “Andrew Niccol and Stephenie Meyer have made a terrific movie. But the movie business is so tough that we have to be on top of our game.”
