Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner have named Jeremy Kleiner co-prexy of their Plan B Entertainment shingle.Kleiner joined Plan B in 2003 and rose through the ranks from creative exec to producer and now co-president. One of the most successful indie producers in Hollywood, he won the 2014 Academy Award for Best Picture “12 Years a Slave” (shared with director Steve McQueen and co-producers Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Anthony Katagas), and is co-president (with Gardner) of Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment.
Gardner has championed projects that are narrative-driven and filmmaker-driven, often with strong social and political elements, resulting in strong box office and strong contenders at awards season. In addition to winning in 2014, he’s had an impressive Oscar run in the past few years; he produced Ava DuVernay’s 2014 Best Picture Oscar nominee “Selma,” and Adam McKay’s 2015 Best Picture Oscar nominee “The Big Short.”
He’s also racked up box office hits with more commercial fare, producing director Marc Forster’s Brad Pitt zombie blockbuster “World War Z” ($540 million) and the Julia Roberts rom-com drama “Eat Pray Love” ($204 million). Got his start producing Rebecca Miller’s “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” with Gardner, and then “Kick-Ass” with Pitt.
He also produced Barry Jenkins’ Oscar-buzzed “Moonlight,” is currently in production on Bong Joon-Ho’s “Okja,” and is in post-production on David Michôd’s “War Machine,” James Gray’s “The Lost City Of Z” and Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling’s Netflix original series “The OA.”
