Mandabach, former partner in Carsey-Werner-Mandabach Co., has been focused on working the two-way street that now exists between the U.K. and U.S. for programming. Once the ITV pilot is completed, Mandabach intends to shop the format rights to the show to U.S. outlets.
Caryn Mandabach Prods. is the sole production entity on the pilot. U.K. media regulations stipulate that indie producers retain ownership of their product, which makes working across the Pond very attractive, Mandabach said.
"It's a happy counterpoint to doing business in L.A., most of the time," Mandabach said.
Mandabach has been developing relationships in the U.K. TV scene for some time. She was the driving force behind the Carsey-Werner Co.'s acquisition of the rights to U.K. sitcom "Men Behaving Badly" in the mid-1990s.
"Adam's Family" is a family comedy told from the p.o.v. of a video diary kept by a young teenager coming to grips with a newly blended family after one of his parents remarries. Brit comedy writer Simon Nye is penning the ITV adaptation of the script originally written for the BBC by Maya Forbes, Jack Williams and Harry Williams.
In addition to "Adam's Family," Mandabach Prods. has a pilot in play at Lifetime, Christine Ebersole starrer "Libertyville," a co-production with Media Rights Capital. Mandabach also is an exec producer of Lionsgate's upcoming series for Showtime starring Edie Falco (Daily Variety, Feb. 22).
