Kleveland to quit Swedish institute

Norwegian exec says she feels homesick

STOCKHOLM — Ase Kleveland, managing director of the Swedish Film Institute, is to ankle the org May 2006. Kleveland, who is from Norway, confessed to feeling homesick and said it was the right time to quit after six years in the saddle.

“It was great to take command of the institute at a time when the Swedish Film Agreement came into force. Now, the gov-ernment and the parties of the agreement have made new plans for the next five years. They imply a broader brief, in line with the recommendations that the film institute formulated. I consider this to be the best time for the institute to recruit a new managing director,” she said.

In September, the government, the film business and TV companies forged a new agreement, which channels state coin into the local film biz. The pact takes effect Jan. 1.

While understanding Kleveland’s position, the board regretted her decision, said SFI chairman Hakan Tidlund.

The search for a new m.d. begins immediately, said Tidlund.
