Netflix has canceled an upcoming event in Paris for Marvel series “The Punisher,” following a similar decision to ditch a panel on the violence-ridden show at New York Comic-Con. The streaming giant said the moves were in response to the shooting massacre in Las Vegas.
The Paris event, scheduled for Saturday, was called Nuit Noire (Black Night) and was to be held at the Cirque d’Hiver, a historical monument that is home to the world’s oldest permanent circus. Netflix had planned to screen the first two episodes of “The Punisher” and simulcast the New York Comic-Con panel.
In a joint statement, Netflix and Marvel said, after weighing the matter, they had “decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’ to go ahead with the Paris Nuit Noire event and to participate in New York Comic-Con.”
“The Punisher,” considered to be one of Marvel’s darkest and most violent comics, follows a combat veteran who embarks on a bloody journey to avenge the murder of his family in an organized-crime shootout.
