Poll: Should Jimmy Kimmel Return to Host the Oscars in 2018?

Jimmy Kimmel said in his Oscars monologue Sunday night, “I’ve never been to the Oscars before. It’s my first time here. And the way you people go through hosts, it’s probably my last time here.”

However, that may not be true. Kimmel’s hosting gig drew a largely positive response, with Variety‘s Sonia Saraiya saying that he “found an interesting way to braid together both bro comedy and sensitivity — and that’s usually by opting into the role of jackass, which allows pretty much everyone else to look good.” She added that he nailed the “perfect, quintessential host move” when he joked that he knew he’d screw the telecast up somehow after “La La Land” was incorrectly named best picture instead of “Moonlight.”

Could the Academy ask Kimmel back to emcee next year? They’ve done it plenty of times before — just ask Billy Crystal, who hosted nine times, or Bob Hope, who holds the record at a whopping 19 hosting gigs.

We want to know what you think. Should Kimmel return to host, or should he sit out next year? Or are you still evaluating his performance? If you don’t think he should return in 2018, let us know in the comments who you would like to see host Hollywood’s biggest night next year!

UPDATE: This poll has been closed, with our readers voting yes!

Would love to see Ricky Gervais get a crack at hosting the Oscars.

  2. RHYTHM says:

He was simply awesome and superb. Loved the way he kept the attention of the audience intact till the end. Would definitely want to see him host the Oscars in 2018.

  3. Sylvia Connor says:

Kimmel crushed it….would love to see him emcee again !!

  4. surayabay says:

Jimmy was OK, he’s no Billy Crystal, just have Warren Beatty return his check and don’t let Price-Waterhouse dudes tell “Drunk Uncle” he can help stuff the envelopes again, just let him host the damn thing next time!

  6. Wagner Nut says:

Jimmy Kimmel passed all my expectations and met my highest hopes. What other ideas can he possibly come up with after that masterpiece?

  7. Sonia says:

if they didn’t do so many bits (especially that awful tour bus one), maybe winners for sound engineering or whatever wouldn’t be played off all the time. Also actor winners shouldn’t take a lifetime with their speech since they never get played off.

  8. TV Viewer says:

He not only did a good job on the Oscars, his following night’s TV show monologue was very funny!

  9. Jynsen says:

I do not think Jimmy Kimmel should host next year. He spent so much time hating on Trump and not even one second on the much beloved Bill Paxton. He was one of them, and all that was spoken was one sentence from Jennifer Aniston. Oscars are about the love we have for actors, not the hate you have for the President. In fact, most people I know boycotted the show because they knew it would be entirely political. The ratings were low because he alienated the other half of the country. Hmmmm… who should host next year? I think
    Jimmy Fallon would be hilarious!

  10. Spider says:

YES! Kimmel did a fantastic job! I think he should host again….. Warren Beatty should get a chance to vindicate himself. He’s a respected Hollywood legend that does not deserve to carry the stink of the dumb-ass PWC guy who handed him the wrong envelope! …Mr. Beatty, YOU ROCK and next year’s Oscars should allow you to present Best Picture, again! …But, this time, by yourself!!!!!!!!

    • Jim says:

While the guy from PWC should have to go back to basic auditing (on the road with sixty hour weeks and a new mom & pop business each week…

Each envelope had the name of the category in bold gold letters on the red envelope on the outside, so Mr Beatty might have saved it before he even walked on stage. It’s not like it’s his first time at the Oscars.

  11. Steve says:

Kimmel was the best host in ages. But he should only host it if he wants to.

  12. The Messiah says:

He was great, it was one of the best shows in years, it wasn’t his fault that they screwed up the end. Fire the idiot PWC guy that was distracted and gave the wrong card, I’m sick of seeing his grinning face all over television, he should be ashamed of himself, he had ONE job, seriously he was only holding two cards and he gave the wrong one.

  13. Brad says:

Definitely for Kimmel. One of the best hosting jobs in years. Price Waterhouse deserves another chance, they’ve done a good job for 85 years. Just get rid of the guy who screwed up. Warren and Faye should get another chance, too.

  14. Joyce Tyler says:

I vote yes for Kimmel, but no for the accounting firm of Price-Waterhouse-Blahblah. I’d also like Warren Beatty to present the best picture award again.
