David O’Connor Out as Madison Square Garden CEO

Former CAA managing partner David O’Connor has exited as his post as president-CEO of Madison Square Garden.

O’Connor took the reins of MSG in July 2015 after spending 32 years at CAA. Madison Square Garden is home to sports franchises including the New York Knicks and New York Rangers and notable venues including its namesake arena and Radio City Music Hall.

MSG executive chairman James Dolan will serve as interim CEO, the company said. MSG announced the change in a two-sentence press release on Monday. An MSG spokesman declined to elaborate.

O’Connor was among the core group of leaders who took over CAA in 1995 after the departures of co-founders Michael Ovitz and Ron Meyer.

O’Connor spearheaded the launch of the CAA Foundation in 1996 to accelerate the company’s philanthropic efforts. He was key player in the 2006 launch of CAA Sports and a co-founder of Evolution in 2008.
