A second season of thriller series “The Night Manager” is in the works, the show’s production company The Ink Factory, and broadcasters AMC and the BBC have confirmed, while underscoring the point that it has yet to be greenlit.

In a joint statement, the three companies said: “The Ink Factory, AMC and the BBC are in the early stages of developing a potential second [season] of ‘The Night Manager,’ but nothing is definite yet and we have nothing to announce.”

On Tuesday, Susanne Bier, the director on the first season, told Broadcast magazine that a script for the follow-up to the John le Carré adaptation is “slowly being developed.”

Bier said: “We all very much want to do a season two but the thing we absolutely do not want is to do something that does not live up to the level of season one. That would be a really bad idea.”

Season one starred Tom Hiddleston as the night manager of a Cairo hotel, who is recruited to infiltrate the inner circle of an arms dealer, played by Hugh Laurie. It earned 12 Primetime Emmy nominations, winning for direction and music.
