The city of stars is giving a nod right back to Emma Stone.

The “La La Land” actress has been named the world’s highest-paid actress by Forbes, surpassing Jennifer Lawrence, who claimed the top spot in 2016 and 2015.

Stone, 28, collected $26 million, mostly thanks to her Oscar-winning performance as Mia, a barista and aspiring actress, in the movie-musical juggernaut “La La Land.”

Emma Stone Says Her Male Co-Stars Took Salary Cuts so She Could Receive Equal Pay

Stone spoke out about gender parity earlier this year, revealing that her male co-stars have taken salary cuts so she could receive equal pay. “That’s something they do for me because they feel it’s what’s right and fair,” Stone said to Out magazine. “That’s something that’s also not discussed, necessarily — that our getting equal pay is going to require people to selflessly say, ‘That’s what’s fair.'”

Jennifer Aniston was runner-up with $25.5 million. While she continues to receive millions in royalties even a decade after “Friends” ended, the actress, who appeared “The Yellow Bird,” also monetizes endorsements through Emirates airlines, Smartwater, and Aveeno.

Lawrence dropped down two slots to No. 3 with $24 million, almost half of her $46 million earnings in 2016. Most of her paycheck comes from Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming cryptic horror movie “Mother!,” “Red Sparrow,” and her Dior endorsement.

Emma Watson is the sole newcomer on this year’s list after “Beauty and the Beast” became the top-grossing movie of the year so far at $1.26 billion.

Earning estimates are based on a 12-month pre-tax scoring period from Nielsen data, box office numbers, and industry insiders. The cumulative list total is down 16% from $205 million in 2016, to $172.5 million in 2017. While four women breached the $20 million mark last year, only three crossed the threshold this year.

  1. Emma Stone ($26 million)
  2. Jennifer Aniston ($25.5 million)
  3. Jennifer Lawrence ($24 million)
  4. Melissa McCarthy ($18 million)
  5. Mila Kunis ($15.5 million)
  6. Emma Watson ($14 million)
  7. Charlize Theron ($14 million)
  8. Cate Blanchett ($12 million)
  9. Julia Roberts ($12 million)
  10. Amy Adams ($11.5 million)

  1. Ally says:

congratulations to all the women who worked really hard but Jen Aniston in particular is killing it and have been in top3, 5 and 10 for more than a decade.

  2. Jackson says:

    Congratulations to all parties involved.

  3. Myiesha Walker says:

    Sandra Bullock????

  4. Benny says:

Notice how there are no Hispanic or Black actresses on that list…

  5. Pete Repeat says:

If you think they’re overpaid, just don’t watch them. Stop reading about them on Variety, TMZ, or checking their instagram feeds. Don’t go to their movies. There’s plenty of Kardasian/Honey Boo Boo junk food entertainment available to you at a value price.

  6. zalamnov zipnitiopshov says:

wasnt she just complaining that she wasnt making enough money?

    • Sam Lanza says:

I think you missed her point. She was complaining that male actors were making a whole lot more. And she’s got a point there. All the female actresses combined made only a fraction of what the male actors made combined. And while, in my opinion, this has more to do with the fact that there are just more people into dumb action flicks (which tend to star male actors), it’s still worth complaining about.

      • mwah says:

Yeah, on principle it’s a shame that the male actors’ total isn’t much nearer to the females’. However, I find it far more believable that the men earned more due to the performances of the films in which they starred, than that anyone actually pays men more for the same amount of work.

  7. mwah says:

Hmm…my favorites are Julia, Cate, and Jennifer L.

To my mind, actors and singers with actual talent are not “overpaid.” It’s the nature of the work that makes it seem ridiculous. They and everyone else involved in the production are paid what the studio can afford to pay them based on their role in the production, and what their products end up generating. They make things which reach audiences all over the world–as opposed to most jobs that affect only specific geographic areas or a certain customer demographic. Alas, it’s the same with professional athletes (I have no interest in watching most sports, especially the most popular ones…only in playing them.) But when enough people do enjoy watching them, the players wind up earning a lot.
Plus, when you consider how much must come out of that for taxes and fees…yeah.

  8. Quarto says:

Every single one of them is GROSSLY over paid.

    • Greg Buck says:

Look at that list again. Not one of them is “Gross”.

    • Sam Lanza says:

If you’re that one in a million in entertainment, you get the big bucks. And this applies to sports, movies, tv, etc. I don’t think these ladies get overpaid. You know who REALLY gets overpaid? The Rock. That guy made more money than most of these ladies combined. Now that’s pretty ridiculous for somebody who is not all that talented.

      • zalamnov zipnitiopshov says:

thing is, people keep going to see his movies. those movies in turn make a ton of money. the same is not true for the actresses. nobody went to see birdman because emma stone was in it, they went because micheal keaton was.

  9. P-Hound says:

Mila Kunis gets $15.5 million? Work that out.

    • Sam Lanza says:

No. It has more to do with the fact that the unwashed masses are into dumb action flicks. The quality movies still make money, but not nearly as much as these brainless action flicks. It’s a sad fact in the entertainment industry.

  10. Cass says:

Remember folks, 26 mil in California does not go nearly as far as you think.

  11. Ally says:

Jennifer Aniston at NO.2. much respect to her. a true friend icon

  12. tripledipper says:

Emma definitely the much better actor of the two. More power to her.
