Screenwriting duo Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have penned several James Bond movies, have been approached to write the script for the next 007 film, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Purvis and Wade, whose most recent work includes miniseries “SS-GB,” have written or contributed to the scripts of six Bond films including the last outing, “Spectre.” The 007 production company Eon Prods., and Purvis and Wade’s agency, Casarotto Ramsay & Associates, have yet to confirm the approach.

Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have flagged their desire for Daniel Craig to return as 007 for the untitled Bond 25. He has yet to decide, although he’s keener to do it than not, the Mail claims.

Speaking to The Telegraph in February, the writers suggested the new film would be “quite different” to 2015’s “Spectre,” especially in the light of the rise of President Donald Trump and Brexit.

“I’m just not sure how you would go about writing a James Bond film now,” Wade said. “Each time, you’ve got to say something about Bond’s place in the world, which is Britain’s place in the world. But things are moving so quickly now, that becomes tricky. With people like Trump, the Bond villain has become a reality. So when they do another one, it will be interesting to see how they deal with the fact that the world has become a fantasy.”

  1. Armond Trelle says:

Here’s an idea–go with an action movie that gives Daniel Craig a chance to explore the character more, going back to Fleming source material, and keep personal politics out of it? Or get different writers, then. Nobody wants to pay to be bludgeoned with that nonsense.

  2. Another Poster says:

How about using the plot from Blast from the Past by Raymond Benson; Irma Bunt murders James Bond’s son, (mentioned in the book You Only Live Twice). 007 finds out he has fathered a child, Bunt kills the kid, and Bond has to bring Bunt to justice.
Or make a movie about Colonel Sun by Kinsgley Amis.

  3. Practical Voice in the Hollywood Wilderness says:

Or you could avoid politics and just write an action movie.

  4. So far, the “Bond people” appear perfunctory in hiring the “veteran” writers and desiring the tried-and-true Daniel Craig. Perhaps, a “swan-song” for 007 is the script they should write.

  5. Je Vizzusi says:

Speaking for the masses, they need a fresh approach. A throwback in time. The box office billions is easy pickings today with anything they Write and Produce. So maybe take a wild chance and make a movie that we can actually conceive as “reality” and not “fantasy” that the Franchise adapted the character of Flemings Bond into. In other words, give Craig a chance to act!

‘the world is not enough’ was their best work.
and they do need to move on from bond.

Ugh…that stinks. These guys have never been solely responsible for a good Bond pic. Hopefully they bring someone in again to rewrite whatever they think up.
