Vice Retracts Articles About Donald Trump’s Animatronic Robot at Disney World

Vice Media’s Motherboard tech site has retracted two articles — supposedly revealing discord at Disney Parks about Donald Trump’s presence in the Hall of Presidents attraction — citing factual errors and questions about sourcing for the pieces.

“After a thorough investigation into the sourcing of two stories, ‘Here’s the Secret Backstage Trump Drama at Walt Disney World’s Hall of Presidents’ and ‘Behind the Scenes of Disney’s Donald Trump “Hall of Presidents” Installation,’ and the identification of several factual errors, we have decided to retract both pieces,” Motherboard said in an editorial note posted Wednesday in place of the two articles.

Disney Says Animatronic Donald Trump Will Be Installed at Disney World in Late 2017

The note added, “We are conducting a full editorial review to pinpoint how this source was vetted, and how these stories were approved and published in violation of our usual editorial workflow. We fell short of our standards, and regret the error.”

The Motherboard story published on Monday, June 26, alleged that there was internal debate at Disney about whether Trump’s animatronic figure would be speaking in the exhibit. The story also claimed, citing an anonymous source, that Trump’s team was insisting on writing the entire speech for his robotic avatar in Disney World’s Hall of Presidents.

That led Disney Parks to issue a statement that Trump will in fact be represented in the Hall of Presidents with a speaking role. The earlier Motherboard story, “Here’s the Secret Backstage Trump Drama at Walt Disney World’s Hall of Presidents,” published May 19, had cited an anonymous source “close to Walt Disney Imagineering” who claimed the animatronic Trump “will probably not have a speaking role.”

Disney is among Vice Media’s investors, holding a $400 million stake in the millennial-skewing media company.

  1. Proud Deplorable says:

Why not investigate accuracy before you report a fake news article? This wasn’t mistake on your part! You threw your article out there for the world to see before you retracted 2 stories! Is there any MSM, just 1 news outlet, who can report a truthful story? Maybe Variety is liberal, anti-Trump, since they did have Chelsea Clinton on their magazine cover for “Power of Women”!

  2. hellinahandbasket says:

Which is why they are coming after independent news, and video-bloggers, etc on the internet.
It’s a silent attack, YouTube removing ad-revenues when they can’t legally take-down the video, while they throttle views/trends, FaceBlowMe rigidly censored, and TwitTwat shutting-down users for speaking truth.
How much longer will we have this outlet of free speech – the internet, where all by ourselves, we can find truth?
If we don’t protect it and pay close attention to the subtle shut-downs, we’ll be back to holding meeting in secret, and printing-up newsletters in the basement of our neighbor’s house.

    • Deplorable says:

They stopped those meetings back in the 90’s when the group I was meeting with got thrown out of the public library meeting area.

The debate was whether to make him look vaguely human, or stick to a more accurate representation.

Is the media finally realizing that the public doesn’t trust them and that their all out biased reporting has backfired on them?

  12. edward o'neill says:

That shows just how despicable and desperate the media really is when they have to try and degrade a wax figure of President Trump! These people are fkn sick bastards!!

  13. Jim Newton says:

Sad to say there are probably very ew sources for these fake news attacks, my opinion a butthurt media heartbroken about their chosen hero being rejected by the masses is just making most of it up, the members of the media {journalists no longer} are just out to destroy a man who outworked his corrupt socialist competitor and won the the Whitehouse and did not think he was owed it..

Vice = just more cultural marxist trash.

  15. tomkay1012 says:

Motherboard is the parent company of vise. Is that the same vise that calls itself viseland, a cable channel? If so I’ve watched on several occasions and I find the programming filled with the promotion drug use racial divide and a general distain for authority.

  18. irishsavant says:

I read the words ‘vetted source’ in a statement from a MSM outlet. Never knew they had even heard of such a concept.

  19. Gas Passer says:

Oh….another fake source is spreading more fake news about President Donald Trump

  20. bunky says:

All BS all the time from libtwat media.

  21. Paulytical says:

A retraction does little compared to day after day, week after week and month after month of nonsense and character assassination. Unfortunately, there are people who watch that stuff and they will never know it was “retracted”. They’ll assume it was genuine news.

  23. Buzz says:

    CNN = Crappy News Network

    • Jack Burton says:

It’s been a great week for President Trump, the American people and the TRUTH! Lots of fake news being exposed for what it is, not that most had not already figured it out but man admissions on video sure drive it home how far from journalistic integrity the media has become.

  24. Dave says:

The retraction rate is skyrocketing among the “news media.” Fake news is systemic.

  25. Mack Eavelo says:

As usual the president was right……the corrupted, bias, lying Politburo Media was faking it.

  26. benbott says:

Isn’t Vice owned by Disney? (not joking)

  27. Sycovit says:

Probably one of the most patriotic Presidents we’ve had in a lot a years and treated like excrement. What he actually does, not what people say he’s doing or going to do is what is important. Under the circumstances, I think he’s doing a great job. Thank You President Trump. I know you have our best interests at heart.

  28. Frank Davis says:

So you only copped to fake news because Disney called you out? Got it.

  29. John Martinez says:

    fuck all ya’all Trump supporters

  30. Many-Land says:

Guess VICE is just “joining the club” of mainstream fake news outlets…sad…

Disney. Still pplaying with fire Trump will destroy you as well watch it

  32. Richard Davidson says:

If it wasn’t for fake news…we wouldn’t have any MSM media at all i

  33. Richard Davidson says:

I find it incredible that so many people still follow the biased far left MSM after all the lies they published about Trump during and after his election,,,,

  34. Jack2211 says:

I want to (virtually) punch everyone who whines about fake news. Fox and Breitbart get stuff wrong all the time and typically don’t retract anything. In fact, they double down. This is not fake news – it’s a (pretty big, if the source was wrong – which they may not have been) mistake.

Relying on a single source is risky – and rushing stuff out is riskier. Journalists – and publications – make mistakes, but what’s telling is how they address them.

Right now, every little error is being used to discredit hard work by smart people.

    • Lean Hog says:

Making up a story out of whole cloth is not a “mistake”; it’s intentional, malicious, evil, and sick. So is defending the practice..if the shoe fits, wear it.

      • Trevor says:

Do you honestly believe that the MSM puts out mistakes intentionally? Do you know the odds of being discredited are so much higher than just playing it safe and telling the truth? The fact of the matter is that people do indeed make mistakes…the intentional part is Trump-supporters jumping on this opportunity to beat and beat and beat and beat down someone from making a mistake because it hurt your feelings.

Do yourself a favor and get over yourself, stop devouring others when it benefits you, and honestly just move on from Trump – he’s a horrible human being (and a terrible president, but who’s keeping track) and you know it.

    • Frank Davis says:

Little error? Like totally fabricating stories? The msm has never been so out of control and it’s about time they were shamed for it. Tell, me, what did Fox and Breitbart get wrong? Thought so.

  35. JBnID says:

It’s amazing how bullies back off when somebody fights back.

  36. If it’s from the usual Lib Media, it’s Fake News.

  37. ARod says:

It’s great to see all these professional journalist weighing in on details they know nothing about. Real journalism is retracting an article and admitting it when you, upon closer scrutiny, MIGHT have been wrong. An honorable attribute not in fashion in the White House lately. Forget about the push down that corporate parent Disney might have pushed on Vice in order to silence and detractors lest the huddled bumbling masses of overweight self-righteous ignoramuses that identify with POTUS v0.0 might spill their McCafe in a fit of indignation and decide to gather three other champions of the republic in an effort to boycott the house of mouse. I just wish the subscribers of inane thoughts that spewed half of the comments on this were as concerned with the very real and dangerous lies coming from their government as they were with the honest journalist at Vice.

  38. Marsha Frey says:

“We fell short of our standards, and regret the error.” — is getting to be the “talking points of the MSM.

  39. Robert Mark says:

Well maybe it will tweet. What is this Breitbart Week for The Trolls Strike Back? Seems like Trump is getting off pretty lightly so far for being a failed blowhard and traitor who’s trying to force a war with Iran to make his Russian Control happy if it finally picks the price of oil futures up off the floor. Sit back and watch the angry Ivan troll comments roll in. Ho hum.

    • Chuck says:

Blowhard, ok maybe. Failed at what? He beat Hillary. Traitor – Dem talking point. Force a war? Dem talking point. Russia collusion is a Dem manufactured story that was intended to get bots like you repeating it, which worked as planned.

      So glad that Hillary lost.

  40. Addison DeWitt says:

I am so stinking sick of the media and others attacking Trump on issues based on lies. The media are alienating half the population.

    • Jerry says:

You seem distressed that you have a President Trump, maybe it is how you are allowing the Fake media to frame your view? Russian Control, please provide proof!

  41. God bless President Trump … !!!!!!!!

  42. the worm has turned says:

Sometime the American people are slow on the uptake. But momentum is building as people realize that a corrupt press corps, traitorous intelligence operatives and the Hollywood left have been attempting a silent coup of President Trump. As light is shined on these cockroaches, they will scatter and plead for mercy from a righteously angered populous.

  43. Mickey says:

What a week of liberal-allied organizations getting busted for dishonest stories about our president. Haters gonna hate, but this is getting ridiculous. Give the guy some measure of fairness and let him try to do his job without the daily and hourly attack missiles coming at him.

  44. Yet another reason to question the trustworthiness and anything the media says, does or prints. The media has proven they have no Honor, no Trust and no commitment to America. SHAME ON YOU!

  45. rdburke says:

You couldn’t find anything better to write about? Slow news day? SMH!

  46. Factual errors? Oh, you mean more fake news!? Well it is Vice, so yeah, I can understand that.

  47. Non-Hexadecimal says:

What’s there to investigate? In the scientific world, it’s called confirmation bias–the tendency to overweight evidence that confirms your pre-existing bias and underweight evidence that contradicts your pre-existing bias. Of course “journalism” doesn’t exercise the same rigor towards evidence as science. Vice published this fake news as if it were true, because they WANTED it to be true. There! I saved Vice the trouble of an expensive investigation.

  48. Mitch Rapp says:

Awww. Another fake american speaks. Sucks being a loser doesn’t it Pi.

  49. Mitch Rapp says:

Actually they are just sorry for being caught at making crap up and calling it news. They are among many doing this daily.

  50. liz953 says:

    We regret the error.

I’m weary of this facile phrase. What they mean is that they regret they were caught in their lazy “reporting.” Journalism 101, folks: a single source is supposed to be supported by another source. It’s easier to “regret the error” after the fact than to get the facts straight in the first place. Regretting the error is not the same as an apology.
