The Producers Guild of America will determine the fate of disgraced studio mogul Harvey Weinstein in an emergency meeting over the weekend.
The guild is expected to vote Saturday on whether or not to boot Weinstein. Weinstein was forced out of his own company this past Sunday following a bombshell New York Times exposé revealed dozens of sexual harassment allegations against him.
A source confirmed the meeting, first reported by Deadline Hollywood. PGA leadership on Wednesday emailed members outlining the procedures that are expected to lead to Weinstein’s expulsion from a group that just four years ago honored him with their most prestigious award.
Weinstein has quickly become a pariah in Hollywood. In addition to the Producers Guild, he faces expulsion from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; the British Academy of Film and Television Arts has suspended his membership after the New York Times and New Yorker published explosive stories detailing the extent of Weinstein’s misconduct.
Scores of women, including A-list actresses like Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, have come forward detailing instances of harassment, groping and sexual assault by Weinstein.
