Fox Business’ Republican Debate Coverage To Be Made Free On Certain Cable Outlets

Fox Business Network has arranged once again with certain cable and satellite providers to make its coming coverage of a Republican Presidential debate available to more subscribers.

As it did for a Republican debate it covered in November, Fox Business will be made available to subscribers to certain systems. Fox Business said DirecTV, Suddenlink, Mediacom, Wide Open West, and Cox Communications, along with a number of outlets operated by National Cable Television Cooperative member companies will “unbundle” the network during its coverage. The arrangement means those companies’ customers will be able to view the FBN coverage, even if they do not subscribe to the network as part of their plans with the cable operators.

The effort shows the importance Fox Business is placing on the debates to drive awareness of its broader efforts. Ratings for Republican and Democratic debates broadcast in recent weeks by Fox News Channel, CNN and CNBC have been well above viewing norms. Fox Business’ previous debate coverage drew 13.5 million total viewers and 3.7 million viewers between 25 and 54, the demographic more desired by advertisers. The broadcast was the highest-rated program in the network’s history.

Fox Business’ debates are the first of the election year and will focus on economic, domestic and international policy issues. Beginning at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. easstern, Thursday’s debates will air live from the North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center in North Charleston, S.C.
