“New Girl” star Jake Johnson, who portrays Nick Miller on the Fox comedy, is playing a new role in the hit series — director. Johnson directed “Bob & Carol & Nick & Schmidt,” the fifth episode of “New Girl’s” fifth season.
While Johnson is a seasoned veteran on “New Girl,” this episode marks his first time directing.
Above, Variety has an exclusive sneak peek from the episode, in which Nick and Schmidt (Max Greenfield) have a vaguely horrifying discussion about Nick’s potential future.
“Let’s face the facts, my love life is a disaster. Schmidt, this might be my only chance of having a kid,” Nick says in the clip. “If I can’t have a kid with a woman, then maybe I’ll have one with my cousin.”

“Bob & Carol & Nick & Schmidt,” marks Johnson’s directorial debut, but the actor has previously served as a writer-producer on dramedy “Digging for Fire,” and a producer on TV movie “The Winklers.”
Johnson’s co-star Hannah Simone took to Instagram yesterday to mark the occasion of his directorial debut. “We have shot over 100 episodes and it is because you awesome clowns keep showing up and we are so thankful. So thankful that we decided to let you see what happens when this guy gets behind the camera,” she wrote of Johnson.
