“Shield” star Michael Jace has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for killing his wife, a Los Angeles judge ruled on Friday.

He was found guilty on May 31 of second-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife, April Jace, two years ago.

Jace was sentenced on Friday following an emotional hearing in which the actor admitted to killing his wife in May of 2014. The 53-year-old apologized to the family after the victim’s relatives spoke and wept in court.

His attorney told jurors that he had acted in the heat of passion, according to the Associated Press. Jace was reportedly upset that his wife planned to divorce him.

Prosecutors said that Jace shot his wife three times, with their two young sons present, at the couple’s Hyde Park home: twice in the legs and once in the back.

The couple’s 10-year-old son, Nehemiah, told jurors that he heard his father say, “‘If you like running, then run to heaven,'” before firing the second shot, the AP reports.

Jace told police that he initially intended to take his own life. He later decided to hurt his wife, not kill her, planning to shoot her in the leg with her father’s revolver.

“I was just angry,” Jace said. “All I intended to do was shoot her in the leg. And then I shot her in the leg and that was it.”

Jace played a police officer in the FX crime drama “The Shield.”

I Feel a little sorry for Michael Jace, but what he did was absolutely stupid! i watch “THE SHIELD” from my DVD collection every now and then, because of it’s gritty realism, and “pull no punches” approach,,but trying to come to terms with Jace’s actions is very hard for me,considering the “unique” role playing “Officer Lowell” must’ve been for him! reality can sometimes be the hardest with many of these actors, and whatever caused Michael Jace’s marriage to hit rock bottom like this, sure wasn’t worth the actions he took, that resulted in his wife’s death-now he faces a lengthy prison sentence, where he’ll likely be harassed and bullied, and could also face sexual harassment, since his “SHIELD” character was openly Gay,before the writers set him up with marrying a real woman! sure hope Mr Jace fends well for himself,,but killing his wife, even if it was unintentional, was still very stupid! he’ll have 40 to life to ponder on that decision,,i wish him well!!

”All I intended to do was shoot her in the leg”. Well, that’s a relief, he just wanted to cripple her and not kill her. Like just shooting a woman in the leg is perfectly okay.

Wow…I pray I never get that discombobulated with anger that causes a situation as this on a woman. Big as he is, I don’t condone hitting a lady but in this case it would have been a less stupid idea so the children would have their parents and he would most likely not gotten for two years but also have the opportunity to seek counseling for himself and not have faced this murder charge what an ass
