Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, who famously filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Roger Ailes this summer, will guest host the 9 a.m. hour of the “Today” show on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Carlson made the announcement Friday on her Twitter, tweeting that she is “excited to be guest hosting.” She also teased that she will be making “announcements.”

An insider tells Variety that Carlson is guest hosting just this one time and is not in talks for a larger role at “Today.” Her announcements, which she teased on Twitter, are not NBC-related, according to our source.

Carlson filed her lawsuit against Ailes this past July, which set off a domino effect of allegations from multiple woman against the embattled Fox News chief, ultimately forcing him to resign from the company. Carlson reportedly received a $20 million settlement, plus a public apology from the cable news network.

Tuesday’s episode of “Today” will mark Carlson’s first on-air hosting gig, following the Fox News debacle. Since settling the sexual harassment case, Carlson has kept a relatively low profile, but she did sit down with ABC News for a “20/20” special in November. During her interview, Carlson said, “I hope I’ve helped other women to win.”

Katie Couric Returns to ‘Today’ as Guest Co-Host

The 9 a.m. hour of “Today” has been in flux ever since the departure of Billy Bush, who came under widespread scrutiny for the now-infamous leaked audio tapes with President-Elect Donald Trump, in which Bush and Trump were heard making vulgar comments about women. Bush was hired to co-anchor the 9 a.m. hour of “Today” just weeks prior to his controversial exit. Since, the hour has been hosted by Tamron Hall, Al Roker and usually a guest.

Next week’s “Today” will also see another familiar face on the anchor desk: former “Today” host Katie Couric is back reuniting with Matt Lauer for the week of Jan. 2, filing in for Savannah Guthrie, who is on maternity leave.

Wut a trainwreck the “Today” show has become. Tamron Hall makes me want to gouge my eyes out & puncture my ear drums within 30 seconds of tuning in, if Al Roker hasn’t run me off already.

While Natalie Morales was always appealing & Savannah Guthrie still is appealing especially with the newsy stuff, Matt Lauer’s style & likability flamed out in the 90’s unfortunately & the Ann Curry debacle should have put the nail in his coffin.

Now this parade of misfits that include Billy Bush( actually good with celeb stuff but not right for the Today show fiasco), Katie Couric( legendary female news person for sure, but somehow not appealing anymore as witnessed by her CBS anchor bomb of a stint), and now Gretchen Carlson( who deserves every penny from FOX & Roger Ailes, but was she really ever that good of news person?)

If the “Today” show had any sense, they would put the franchise tag on Willie Geist for the full format backed up by Savannah Guthrie who can pivot to the hard news & let Dylan Dreyer take the weather rounded out with a bunch of new social media savvy talent from all walks of life filling the gaps.

Sure Matt Lauer, Al Roker & Tamron Hall should get nice production company exit deals or whatever as gratitude for their service, but lately if feels like the Today show is just orchestrating even worse choices as guest hosts in order to make their current clunkers look better. – Good luck with that :/

  4. Michael Anthony says:

This is the best u can do, Today? A woman who stays silent for years, never considering others at risk. Until the day she’s dismissed, common at that age in news with declining ratings. Then collects a massive payday and pretends she’s taken the high road, full of courage.

Bahamas, humbug. Wonder if she thought of all those she hurt with her hateful Christian words. Probably not, and will never. Millions of dollars has a way of making everything good. Hypocrite.

But, no surprise from NBC. Heck, they hired that sexual predator to replace Trump on Apprentice. They have no morals.
