Ex-Fox News Chief Roger Ailes Will Be Subject of Proposed TV Mini-Series

The media’s fascination with former Fox News chief Roger Ailes hasn’t dwindled yet. Gabriel Sherman, one of the executive’s most ardent chroniclers, has joined up with a production company to create a mini-series about Ailes’ life and recent controversial times.

Blumhouse Television and Sherman and his spouse, Jennifer Stahl, have partnered to create a limited scripted series based on Sherman’s reporting on Roger Ailes in the New York Times bestselling book “The Loudest Voice in the Room” and New York magazine where Sherman is National Affairs Editor.  Tom McCarthy, best known for his association with the critically-acclaimed movie “Spotlight,” about the travails of the Boston Globe in trying to report on rampant sexual abuse present in the area’s diocese,  will executive produce the series. Sherman and Stahl will co-executive produce and serve as writers.  Blumhouse, serving as the studio, will finance, produce and package the series.
Blumhouse Television has a number of interesting credits, including Emmy-award winning series such as “The Normal Heart,” an adaptation of the Larry Kramer play about the AIDS crisis,” and “The Jinx,” the controversial series about real-estate scion and accused murderer Robert Durst.
Sherman has broken many of the biggest stories on Roger Ailes over the past several months, a time span during which the Fox News chief was accused of sexual harassment in a lawsuit filed by former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson (pictured, above). Those accusations resulted in more allegations from current and past female employees at Fox News Channel along with other charges leveled by women from Ailes’ past. While Ailes has denied all the allegations, they had a serious effect: Fox News Channel is now under new leadership and believed to be recalibrating itself for a new era under the supervision of 21st Century Fox executive chairman Rupert Murdoch and his sons James and Lachlan.
Blumhouse did not say whether a TV network had agreed to license the series, nor did it give a time frame for when the series might become available.

The media industry may have more Ailes content available soon. Speaking Wednesday at a conference organized by Vanity Fair,  journalist Sarah Ellison said that Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly has added a chapter about Ailes to her forthcoming book, slated to be available next month.
