Kate del Castillo has broken her silence in her first television interview following her controversial meeting with Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

The actress sat down with ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer about the astounding experience.

Sawyer talked about the interview — part of a special edition of “20/20” that airs Friday at 10 p.m. ET on ABC — Friday morning on “Good Morning America.”

Clips from the interview include discussions about del Castillo’s relationships with Guzman and Sean Penn, who was part of the meeting that took place deep in the mountains of Mexico three month before Guzman was captured by authorities on Jan. 8.

Del Castillo, a motorcycle and race car enthusiast who plays drug lord Teresa Mendoza in the telenovela “La Reina del Sur,” told Sawyer that she’s addicted to risk.

“I don’t think it was necessarily me, Kate del Castillo, he probably had a crush on Teresa Mendoza,” she said, before Sawyer probed her further about whether Guzman actually fell for her. “It think he’s maybe an admirer. I don’t know. Okay, maybe yes.”

She admits to feeling hurt by Penn, who she thought was merely helping her get a film made about the drug lord, not writing a Rolling Stone article about the meeting.

“I’m angry at myself because I believe in people and I didn’t know Sean Penn,” del Castillo said.

She told the New Yorker earlier this month that Penn’s claims that she was aware of his intention to write the article were “total and complete bulls—.”

When i talk to people i don’t look at them directly because it’s awkward. So, it doesn’t have to only be that reason.

  2. Tomas Agusto Mivergara says:

Well who wouldn’t have a Crush on KDC, and isn’t the war on drugs a total hoax???? Its a mega billion business for the US too. Its just like the Prohibition era, that spawned so much corruption! The US has a huge problem of addiction and people are killing themselves to serve that necessity funded by the American Society! Basic economics, the law of demand and supply! Where are the efforts on prevention, treatment and addiction????? Everyone looks south as the problem, and the problem is right next to them creating this monsters. Scare of the monsters the US created, ha not a Hollywood Tale but one that fascinates American Hypocrisy!

    • David says:

So you’re going to pull the whole “Blame the victim” angle? People have addiction, but it doesn’t mean that people have to supply it. Mexico has a drug use problem too, but little do I see you blaming the people of that country for their own problems. Grow up Mexico and take resposibility for your actions. Stop blaming those “bad addicts” to the North for your crimes. Even if you take away drugs from the crime equation you still have the cartel dabbling in kidnapping, extortion, and they’ve even gotten into stealing oil from Pemex lines. None of these activities Involve the U.S. and its citizens. Face the beast instead of deferring blame to the citizens of another country.

  3. Paul Serrano says:

del Castillo is a has been, who’s tried for years to crossover to American television and failed – she’s absolutely loving the attention she’s getting for this and will do whatever she can to milk it for as long as she can, starting with this ‘interview’ which and her feinged outrage – believe me, she’s eternally grateful to Sean Penn for drafting her into this stunt, it’s the most publicity she’s had in a decade..

  4. Kate del Castillo maybe playing a Drug Lord on a Spanish station, loves motorcycles and Race cars and love being a risk taker. I hope she knew that what she does on TV is not real and what Joaquin “El Chao’ Guzman does is his everyday life. The big question is why did she feel the need to seek out “El Chapo” is the first place. What was she going to get out of exposing “El Chapo” and his mob business for. Secondly, del Castillo could been that clueless on what Sean Penn intentions were when he was asked by del Castillo to help her make a documentary about the life of one Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Lorea. Ignorance is bliss and del Castillo was certainly nobody’s fool. She knew full well that Sean Penn was writing an article for the Rolling Stones on their meeting with “El Chapo”. Lastly, when Ms. Diane Sawyer had asked del Castillo how did the well-known Drug Lord like “El Chapo” fell in love with you or is in love with you. del Castillo has gasp and rolled her eyes and said he’s an admirer I guess and okay I think he his. del Castillo knows deep down inside that “El Chapo” was and still is deeply in love with her and del Castillo is still deeply in love with “El Chapo”. The interview is going to be good. Waiting is the hard part.
