CBS’ “Young and the Restless” and ABC’s “General Hospital” lead the list of nominees for this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, which will not be airing on TV for the second time in the past three years.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has nixed plans for a telecast of the ceremony because of the cost. Last year NATAS set a two-year deal with Pop, the CBS and Lionsgate-owned cabler, for telecast of the show after a debacle in 2014 when the ceremony aired as a live webcast.

But NATAS decided that the six-figure cost of producing the ceremony for TV was too high even with the license fee offered by Pop. The New York-based academy is believed to be in discussions for another webcast partner.

Low ratings have taken a toll on the Daytime Emmy Awards’ fortunes. The ceremony bounced around from CBS to ABC to CW to CNN sibling HLN during the past decade before falling off of TV entirely in 2014. The Pop pact in 2015 was billed as a comeback for the kudos that honor soap operas, game shows, children’s programs and other non-prime-time fare. Tyra Banks hosted last year’s ceremony.

“After months of negotiations to find show sponsorship, the NATAS executive board has decided that the current climate for awards shows prohibits the possibility of a telecast this year,” said NATAS president Bob Mauro. “With that said, we will be putting on a world-class awards celebration honoring the best and brightest of Daytime television and look forward to an exciting show. All efforts regarding returning the annual gala to television in 2017 are under way.”

The ceremony is set for May 1 at the Westin Bonaventure hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The Creative Arts kudos will be handed out April 29 at the Bonaventure.

“Young and the Restless” once again lead the field of nominees with a total of 27 bids. ABC’s “General Hospital” was No. 2 with 24 noms, followed by CBS’ “Bold and the Beautiful” (23) and NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” (16). Those four sudsers are all nommed for best drama series.

The increased competition among CBS’ “The Talk” and ABC’s “The View” is spilling over into the kudos arena, with both shows up for entertainment talk show and for hosts. “The View’s” host nominees include some of those who were axed from the show at the end of last season.

Up for entertainment talk show: CBS’ “The Talk,” ABC’s “The View” and the syndicated “Wendy Williams Show,” “Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “The Real.”

Contenders for entertainment talk show host: Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan for the syndicated “Live With Kelly and Michael,” Adrienne Bailon, Loni Love, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Jeannie Mai and Tamar Braxton for “The Real”; Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Aisha Tyler and Sheryl Underwood for “The Talk”; Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Candace Cameron-Bure, Paula Faris, Raven Symone, Nicolle Wallace, Rosie Perez and Michelle Collins for “The View”; and Wendy Williams for the syndicated “Wendy Williams Show.”
