CBS has set the premiere date for freshman series “Superior Donuts.”
The multi-camera comedy will debut Thursday, Feb. 2 at 8:30 p.m. It will then move to its regular Monday, 9 p.m. time period the following week, beginning Feb. 6.
Veteran comedy “2 Broke Girls” will shift to Mondays at 9:30 p.m.
Based on the play by Tracy Letts, “Superior Donuts” stars Judd Hirsch as the gruff owner of a small doughnut shop in a gentrifying Chicago neighborhood and Jermaine Fowler as his new, younger employee. Katey Sagal, David Koechner, Maz Jobrani, Anna Baryshnikov, Darien Sills-Evans and Rell Battle also star. Hailing from CBS Television Studios, the series is executive produced by Bob Daily, Neil Goldman, Garrett Donovan, Mark Teitelbaum, John Montgomery, Michael Rotenberg, Josh Lieberman, and Fowler.
“Superior Donuts” was one of two series ordered by CBS for the 2016-17 season. The other was “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders,” which still has yet to be scheduled.
With the move to Monday nights and the shift of “2 Broke Girls,” “Superior Donuts essentially takes over the time period being vacated by “The Odd Couple,” which is not having its order extended beyond 13 episodes. CBS has not yet decided the fate of that show, which is currently in its second season.
