CBS Schedules ‘Rush Hour’ Reboot for Thursdays This Spring

CBS has slotted its reboot of “Rush Hour,” based on the action-comedy feature film series starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, for Thursdays this spring, the network announced Friday.

Rush Hour” will bow March 31 at 10 p.m. in the timeslot currently occupied by “Elementary.” CBS figures to heavily promote the new series during its coverage of the March Madness college basketball tournament, and it should be a good fit coming out of the net’s Thursday comedy block.

In other CBS schedule notes announced Friday, “Elementary” will move to Sundays at 10 starting March 20. Current timeslot occupant “CSI: Cyber” will squeeze in a pair of originals on Wednesday at 10 on March 2 and 9, serving as a bridge between the first-season finale of “Code Black” on Feb. 24 and the series premiere of “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders,” whose premiere is now set for March 16.

The moves would seem to give CBS a good chance to compare the relative strength of three different post-“Criminal Minds” shows in a short timespan before the network announces its fall schedule in May.

The CBS version of “Rush Hour” stars newcomers Jon Foo as a by-the-book detective from Hong Kong and Justin Hires as a maverick LAPD detective who knock heads when they are forced to partner together. The 1998 film and its pair of sequels, all directed by Brett Ratner, grossed nearly $900 million in the U.S. and Canada.

“Rush Hour” is one of numerous current or recent television series inspired by feature films, including the Eye’s own “Limitless” and Fox’s “Minority Report.” Among shows in development for next season are “Behind Enemy Lines” at Fox, “Cruel Intentions” at NBC and “Training Day” at CBS.
