He was released at 4 a.m. on Monday morning with a $1500 bond, the Chicago Police Department confirmed to Variety. According to the Chicago Sun Times, citing police sources, Howery was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle when the car he was in struck another vehicle.
The report also said that Howery got into an argument with the other driver and ultimately punched him in the face as things escalated. TMZ, however, which first reported the news, is claiming that the other vehicle in question slammed the car he was in from behind.
The driver of the vehicle that Howery was in reportedly drove off and left the comedian. Police then arrested and booked Howery on a misdemeanor battery. Police said the other driver was treated for minor abrasions.
Aside from starring on “The Carmichael Show,” Howery has also previously appeared on truTV’s “Friends of the People.”
