Troubled teen Evelyn Sharp (Madison McLaughlin) will return to “Arrow” in Season 5, Variety has learned, and after her brief stint behind Black Canary’s mask last season, she’s definitely been bitten by the vigilante bug. Evelyn was last seen in episode 419, “Canary Cry,” when she impersonated the fallen Black Canary to seek revenge on Damien and Ruvé Darhk for the murder of her parents.

McLaughlin will be reprising her role as Evelyn for multiple episodes beginning in episode 502, and will be taking on a new DC Comics persona: Having tried to assume the mantle of Black Canary last season, Evelyn now aims to forge her own identity as the masked archer known as Artemis.

Stephen Amell Teases New Villain on ‘Arrow’ Season 5

In the comics, Artemis was the daughter of villains Tigress and Sportsmaster, and a member of the Injustice Society, although the character was given a heroic twist in DC animated series “Young Justice,” where she became Green Arrow’s sidekick after Roy Harper left the group. Evelyn certainly demonstrated some less-than-heroic tendencies last season, but perhaps the example set by Oliver (Stephen Amell) and the rest of Team Arrow can help keep her on the right path.

“Arrow” Season 5 will premiere Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. on The CW, leading into freshman drama “Frequency” at 9 p.m. You can check out The CW’s fall premiere schedule here.

  1. Katiewho says:

At least they longer have the previous and horrendous Black Canary. Heard the real reason she is gone is because how difficult the actor in the role was.

    • No @Katiewho, nobody said that at all. They simply fucked up with the character and had no idea how to save her. They said her story was over and they hated writing the courtroom scenes.

She was awesome as Black Siren.

  2. YoungJusticeSeason3 says:

Artemis was amazing in Young Justice……CW please don’t mess this up….

    • Sally Ferdinand says:

I would have to agree, here, but I do not think that this actress will do the Artemis that we know and love justice. I do not want to start to hate my favorite character just because a show messed her up.

  3. UrE says:

just saw the first 2 episodes of Season 1 … This is a teenager show … really.

  4. Garret says:

No one will ever guess her identity with that mole showing under her mask… I hope she gets a new mask. How do so many people become expert archers in such a short time?

  5. M says:

I dunno I thought that Artemis was Huntress’s daughter, maybe I’m qring but this is just something I noticed.

  6. Jon says:

Wonder what this means for her recurring status on Chicago PD.

  7. Biff says:

Sorry, but this is moronic. They killed off a team member because the team was too crowded. This is the 3rd new vigilante they’re adding this year, at least 2 of which will be on the team. And there’s already a sidekick character in Thea. And when is this girl going to learn to use the bow? And what about when Roy returns for a couple episodes? Seriously, get someone back on this show who can write.

  8. bren says:

Madison is a great actress and I am glad she is coming back as Evelyn. I can’t wait to see what she does as Artemis!

  9. dragon2heart says:

much too crowded- only going to take screen time from the characters that I want to see.

  10. andyxeno says:

C’mon too many archers and every scene someone asks how the other is feeling,Really not very superheroish ( yup it’s a made up word)

    • Sam says:

Too many archers? The show is called ARROW.

      • Biff says:

Only officially. The real show title is Felicity & Friends.

And having more archers doesn’t really matter since the only arrows that matter on this show are the ones on Felicity’s keyboard.

  11. Sam says:

Sounds good. Bit worried about the amount of new masks though. Too many masks was a problem last season on Arrow. They need to cut back.
