ABC is expanding its involvement in the Marvel universe.
The broadcaster has premiered a digital-series spinoff of drama “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD,” focusing on of Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez, played by Natalia Cordova-Buckley — a character with super-speed and a member of the super-powered race of beings know as the Inhumans. “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD: Slingshot” will feature the character struggling with new regulations tracking super-powered beings and coming into conflict with several “SHIELD” regulars. The new digital series is available on ABC.com and ABC’s digital apps.
“Slingshot” is executive produced by Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell, Jeph Loeb and Geoffrey Colo. The first episode is directed by Marvel’s chief creative officer, Joe Quesada.
ABC announced in November that it had given a series order to “The Inhumans,” which is set to be the broadcast network’s third-ever Marvel linear series, following “SHIELD” and the two-season “Marvel’s Agent Carter.” That series will premiere its first two episodes in IMAX theaters as part of a unique co-financing and distribution deal with the theater chain. Expanded versions of those two episodes will then air on ABC in the fall of 2017, with all subsequent episodes set to debut on the broadcast network.
