Mipcom: ‘Kevin Can Wait’ Attracts Sales to U.K., China, India, Latin America

CANNES, France — Sony Pictures Television’s sitcom “Kevin Can Wait” has been picked up by the U.K.’s Channel 4, and by iQiy in China.

Other sales include Viacom 18’s Comedy Central in India, TVNZ in New Zealand, and in Latin America, Turner has acquired the comedy to air in 20 countries across the region. In addition, broadcaster OSN secured the series for the Middle East.

In the U.S., “Kevin Can Wait” airs on CBS and debuted strongly, attracting over 13.2 million viewers. Now in its fourth week, the show is the number two comedy with adults 25-54, only behind “The Big Bang Theory.”

“Starring Kevin James (‘The King of Queens’), the series charts the ups and downs of newly-retired police officer Kevin, who is looking forward to spending more quality time with his family, but quickly discovers he faces tougher challenges at home than he ever did on the streets,” according to a statement.

Keith LeGoy, president, distribution, Sony Pictures Television, said: “Kevin James is a huge talent and loved by audiences around the world. The series had a fantastic start in the U.S. and we’re confident that more international buyers will fall for Kevin’s many charms.”

Sony Pictures Television is shopping the series to international buyers at this week’s Mipcom, alongside scripted titles including “Blacklist: Redemption,” “Notorious,” “Timeless” and “The Halcyon.”
