David Bowie's Death: Celebrities React to

Legendary musician David Bowie died Sunday, and it took only minutes for the music community, Hollywood and even politicians to take to social media to mourn the pop icon.

From U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron to Ricky Gervais, who finished hosting the 2016 Golden Globes only hours before news broke on Sunday, a multitude of public figures shared their condolences. Kanye West, Ava DuVernay and Bowie’s son Duncan Jones are also among those who posted about the late star on Sunday night.

David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer,” Bowie’s family said in a statement. Bowie was 69.

“Very sad news to wake up to on this raining morning. David was a great star and I treasure the moments we had together. His music played a very strong part in British musical history and I’m proud to think of the huge influence he has had on people all around the world. I send my deepest sympathies to his family and will always remember the great laughs we had through the years. His star will shine in the sky forever.”
