J.J. Abrams, Joss Whedon, Jodie Foster, Alfonso Cuaron to Appear at 2016 Tribeca Film Festival

J. J. Abrams, Joss Whedon, Jodie Foster, Alfonso Cuaron, Idina Menzel and Francis Ford Coppola are among the names signed up to participate in the Tribeca Talks series of public discussions during the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival.

Abrams (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) will talk to Chris Rock, Whedon will chat with his “Avengers” star Mark Ruffalo, and Jodie Foster will talk with Julie Taymor (“The Lion King”) in separate events as part of the Directors Series subsection of Tribeca Talks. Cuaron, Baz Luhrmann and Andrea Arnold also are among the directors on tap as part of that program.

Joining the previously announced Tom Hanks (in conversation with John Oliver) and Tina Fey in the Storytellers Series are Menzel, Patti Smith and Francis Ford Coppola (with author Jay McInerney). There’s also a series of discussions after the screenings of some films in the festival, with (among others) David Byrne appearing after documentary “Contemporary Color” and Katie Couric turning up after the documentary she exec produced, “I Voted?”

Donna Karan, Samantha Bee, Nahnatchka Khan and Rosie Perez are among those on tap for the new Daring Women Summit, and the festival will also host master classes on topics including pre-production (with Catherine Hardwicke) and casting (with Ellen Lewis and Ellen Chenoweth, moderated by Bernard Telsey).

The Tribeca Film Festival runs April 13-24.
