“The Walking Dead” star Danai Gurira has joined the Tupac Shakur biopic “All Eyez on Me” as Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur.

The film is currently shooting in Atlanta with Demetrius Shipp, Jr. playing the rap legend and Jamal Woolard portraying Biggie Smalls. Music video/commercial director Benny Boom is helming the movie.

Shakur, who died in 1996 from gunshot wounds, has sold more than 75 million albums. Earlier versions of the script chronicled his rise to superstardom as a hip hop artist and actor, his imprisonment on charges of sexual assault and the East Coast-West Coast rap war.

The title “All Eyez on Me” is taken from Shakur’s fourth studio album, released in early 1996.

The film is produced by James G Robinson and David Robinson of Morgan Creek Productions, along with LT Hutton. Afeni Shakur is an executive producer on “All Eyez on Me” and a member of the Black Panther Party.

Gurira, a native of Zimbabwe, stars as Michonne on “The Walking Dead.” She is represented by UTA and Suskin Management.

The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
