Sony’s yet-to-be-titled Spider-Man movie has been set for a release in Imax Theatres along with the tentpole’s worldwide date on July 7, 2017.

Sony Pictures Entertainment is teaming with Marvel Studios to produce the sixth movie in its franchise, which has grossed $4 billion worldwide. Tom Holland will star as Peter Parker and Marisa Tomei will play his Aunt May.

Jon Watts (“Cop Car”) is directing the franchise re-boot from a script by the team of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are producing.

Imax’s Greg Foster said, “Imax’s long-standing relationship with Marvel and Sony first began with ‘Spider-Man’ in 2002, establishing the ultimate way for fans to be transported into the world of their favorite characters like Peter Parker.”

Sony announced on January 20 that it was moving the new “Spider-Man” forward three weeks to July 7, 2017. The July 28 date was vacated by Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” which will now bow on May 26, 2017.

Josh Greenstein, Sony Pictures marketing-distribution president, said, “There’s so much about Spider-Man – including the web-slinging action – that lends itself perfectly to the Imax screen. We are confident that audiences everywhere around the world will want to see it in Imax.”

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios announced in February, 2015, that Spider-Man would appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the character appearing in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film and Sony releasing a Spider-Man film co-produced by Feige and Pascal. Sony continues to own, finance and distribute the Spider-Man franchise films.

  2. JScotty28 says:

Oh, the naysayers. Sorry, but you don’t know anything. Marvel has really yet to make a bad casting decision. How about you at least wait until a trailer drops with Spiderman in it to criticize? I’m sure you were the same ones back about 10 years ago saying Ledger was a HORRIBLE decision to play The Joker. Keep up the negativity.

This is not gonna work for our all spidey fans, we need Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire back again.

  4. Make mine Marvel...just not by Sony says:

Peter Parker looking like he’s 12 years old? Not gonna work for audiences.

HUGE bomb in the making, being rushed for release so it can…bomb sooner?
