Michael Barbieri is in negotiations to join the cast of Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man: Homecoming” opposite Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr.

Jon Watts is directing Sony’s reboot of the “Spider-Man franchise.” Marisa Tomei is set to play Aunt May and Zendaya is also on board in a mystery role. Details on Barbieri’s role have not been disclosed other than being a friend to Holland’s Peter Parker character.

Kevin Feige is producing with Amy Pascal. Plot details have remained under warps.

Sony has held the rights to “Spider-Man” since the 1990s and has made five films to date, beginning in 2002. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is set to open on July 7, 2017.

Barbieri is also in the cast of Sony’s “The Dark Tower” opposite Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s horror fantasy. He made his feature film debut in Ira Sachs’ “Little Men” about parents battling over a dress shop lease.

Barbieri originally auditioned for the Peter Parker role.

Barbieri is repped by WME and 3 Arts. The news was first reported by Heroic Hollywood.

“Barbieri originally auditioned for the Peter Parker role.” That was some day dreaming on his part. They weren’t casting a Latino Spider-Man.

I was disspointed with spidermans preformance in CW he was easily the worst part of the film imo he came across as green lantern in a red and blue suit. Hopefully his standalone will look at the old spiderman movies more and give him some character other than being yet another comedian hero.

He needs some touching scenes like the civilians carrying spidermans body out of the train or the death of his uncle and the mommment he kills a man while avenging him like in the old films but if the MCU have much controle over him i doubt we ll see anything really moving or compelling itl just be a comedy/action flick.

i know this is just your opinion, but this is some real bullshit. first of all: holland came the closest to portray spiderman the way he should be. second: there wont be any origin story for him , the movie is gonna play after the civil war. so no uncle ben and stuff like that. i hope its gonna be like the comics, they always were sarcastic and really funny. and i am faithful that marvel will pull of a great movie here !

Thor 3, Guardians 2 and black panther have great casts. spiderman not so much except for (Tom, RDJ and Marisa tomie). Hopefully they get some good names soon.
