Paramount Pictures has acquired U.S. distribution to George Clooney’s black comedy “Suburbicon,” starring Matt Damon, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin and Julianne Moore.

The film is expected to begin shooting this October in Los Angeles.

The announcement was made Saturday at the Berlin film FestivalThe project came together on Feb. 1 when Teddy Schwartzman of Black Bear Pictures announced he would finance.

Joel and Ethan Coen have written the script for “Suburbicon,” which is currently in pre-production. Joel Silver will produce under his Silver Pictures banner alongside Clooney and Grant Heslov under their Smokehouse Pictures label, and Teddy Schwarzman for Black Bear Pictures. Clooney will direct.

The movie will be set in the quiet family town of “Suburbicon,” where the best and worst of humanity is hilariously reflected through the deeds of seemingly ordinary people. When a home invasion turns deadly, a picture-perfect family turns to blackmail, revenge and betrayal.

Clooney’s directing credits include “Monuments Men,” “Leatherheads,” “The Ides of March,” “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” and “Good Night and Good Luck.”

The Coen brothers wrote and directed “Hail, Caesar!,” which opened the Berlin Film Festival on Feb. 11. The cast includes Clooney as well as Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes and Jonah Hill.

Brad Grey, Paramount Pictures Chairman & CEO, said: “George has assembled a stellar project, starting with Joel and Ethan’s great script, a wildly talented cast lead by Matt and Julianne, and an extraordinary producing team with George, Grant, Joel and Teddy. We are both proud and excited to be releasing ‘Suburbicon’ in the U.S. and look forward to this picture with great anticipation.”

CAA handled the U.S. sale, with Bloom handling international sales at Berlin. Paramount’s Eben Davidson and attorney David Miercort represented the studio in the deal.

  1. Will obnoxious George Clooney make a mess of this too? The imbecile who sells false reality star lifestyle in the gossip media about his “personal life.” Box office liability George Clooney.
Film flop after film flop these last few years.
FAKE publicity arrangement between Clooney & Amal Alamuddin the inarticulate, non-entity junior lawyer (at almost 40) who never led nor won a case in court.
THERE IS NO MARRIAGE LICENCE at the registry in Italy. Just a wedding celebration paid by her mother Baria who runs a celebrity bookings agency in UK.
George Clooney lacks foresight & continuously fails at box office. His PR network struck up this fake publicity arrangement by selling the Clooney name in order that Amal Alamuddin is elevated to celebrity status.
They are selling reality star fake publicity & in return Amal makes money is fashion stealth marketing.

  2. Bill B. says:

This sounds interesting and the cast is great, but his career as a director is a mixed bag. Good Night & Good Luck was very good, The Ides of March and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind were interesting, the other two were just bad, so who knows what to expect from one of this era’s true movie stars.

  3. Dale Sutherland says:

All movies Clooney is the main star, bombs. Kaput! Let me see: “Tomorrowland” a $190 million bomb for instance. How about his latest, Hail, Caesar! Coens’ biggest US box-office bomb yet. Who is in this movie, non other than that over paid, over hyped middle eastern rug salesman George Clooney.

  4. Dale Sutherland says:

If Clooney writes, directs, or stars in this production, it will bomb like all the other movies he is in. When will Hollywood learn the public cant stand him. Go ahead Hollywood, throw your money away.! He is useless!
