Watch: Tim Burton’s ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ Gets First Trailer

Tim Burton is back in the director’s chair for “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” which got its first trailer on Tuesday.

Burton, along with screenwriter Jane Goldman (“The Woman in Black”), brings to the screen the story about unconventional children who possess incredible powers. It’s based on the critically acclaimed and bestselling young adult book of the same name.

Fans of the book will notice a few differences between the novels and movies just by watching the new trailer – Olive instead of Emma seems to be Jacob’s closer friend and Emma wields air instead of fire.

The cast is led by one of Burton’s former collaborators, Eva Green (“Dark Shadows”), who plays the titular character of Miss Peregrine, the owner of a children’s home and a shape-shifter of sorts. Asa Butterfield (“Hugo,” “Ender’s Game”) plays Jacob, a seemingly ordinary boy who stumbles upon Miss Peregrine and her peculiar children while on a trip to Wales.

“Because our abilities don’t fit in the outside world, we live in places like this, where no one can find us,” says Miss Peregrine as Burton’s quintessential style comes to life in a mix of whimsical imagery and dark undertones. But this utopia is threatened by a wealth of monsters, and it’s up to Jacob to protect and save the peculiar children and their world.

The cast is rounded out by Ella Purnell, Allison Janney, Kim Dickens, Judi Dench, Rupert Everett and Samuel L. Jackson.

Burton last directed “Big Eyes” in 2014 and produced “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” which premieres later this year.

“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” hits theaters on Sept. 30.
