Michael Sheen Clarifies That He Does Not Plan to Leave Hollywood

Michael Sheen

Updated: Michael Sheen clarified an article that ran in the U.K. paper The Times that said he was going to leave Hollywood in order to pursue full-time activism.

“Before this gets ridiculous I said I’m thinking I might start acting less and maybe even stop for a while at some point but don’t know yet,” Sheen tweeted on Saturday afternoon.

He continued to explain his situation on tumblr, writing that he told the interviewer that he has become more “involved with community issues back at home,” but did not say that he would stop acting.

Original: “In the same way as the Nazis had to be stopped in Germany in the Thirties, this thing that is on the rise has to be stopped,” Sheen told the U.K. paper The Times.

Sheen is the star of “Masters of Sex,” which Showtime did not renew for a fifth season, meaning its final episode aired on Nov. 13. He also stars in Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt’s sci-fi film “Passengers” which opens on Dec. 21. The actor also has two film currently in post-production — “Home Again,” starring Reese Witherspoon and Mike White’s film “Brad’s Status.”

“It’s not going to look like this in ten years’ time,” Sheen told The Times. “Everything has shifted. The dice are being rolled again.”

Sheen said his involvement with the National Theatre of Wales’s production of “The Passion” in 2011, which involved more than 1,000 local volunteers, sparked his increasing role in activism.

Sheen is known as a successful stage actor, but also for his film roles in “Frost/Nixon,” “Midnight in Paris” and the “Twilight” saga. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for “Masters of Sex” and an Emmy for his portrayal of Tony Blair in 2010’s “The Special Relationship.”

  1. I think he’s a brilliant actor, and I for one always look forward to see his work. Including Passengers even though he’s there for a short bit (that’s what I got from the trailer).

  2. Alex says:

He’s going to learn after he leaves (or not) that no one will miss him

  3. Sally says:

Glad he clarified, now I’ll be able to sleep tonight.

  4. Adam says:

Hey at least he had he conviction to actually leave the US unlike Lena Dunham and Cher who wimped out on their promise to leave if Trump won.

  7. fcallen says:

He has been brainwashed by Clinton’s cognitive science team who, to be fair to them, didn’t expect to lose and leave casualties like this.

    • Jo Mama says:

And Clinton’s team, like many others, has been duped by the Club of Rome and depopulation agenda that’s the essence behind environmentalism. Never before have SO MANY been SO SURE of something with zero evidence. They admit the Earth (and possibly Sun) has cycles, but still use a melting glacier as actual evidence? Now that they’ve been doing these models for a decade or so, it’s painfully obvious that none of these doomsday models will come to fruition. They’ve even catapulted off a faulty assumption that we’re harming the Earth to the shameless claim that it’s the fault of the U.S., and all our cars destroying the Earth. And it’s us that have to make the most sacrifices, while somehow all the leaders of the movement are becoming massively wealthy investing and creating dubious businesses solely for the federal subsidies, even though it’s clear these companies can make no profits on their own. It’s the second greatest scam of the modern age, behind central banking. Where do you think the $20T goes? To the same people who hatched this insidious idea, and want less people on the planet (ideally 500m). Every feminist they create, every abortion they fund, and every autistic child is death – via lack of procreation, killing embryos, or social sterilization, every person they can swindle into not procreating is a win.

  8. Pamela Foti says:

I seriously doubt he will be missed

  9. MattW says:

Everybody I disagree with politically is a nazi.

Look how mature I am guise

  10. Idiots are triggered when people actually decide to stand up for what they believe in. Free speech and the right to protest is inconvenient for you peasants, isn’t it?

  17. Pointguard says:

Who gives a crap what you think this is our country and if you don’t like it go home.

    • Lauren says:

That’s literally what he is doing…

    • JK says:

And people like you are responsible that the country is going in the wrong way, electing a monster as Trump. So yeah, keep that to yourself, but the majority didn’t think like you. So if you don’t like what Michaels says, well then s*uck it

      • Donald Trump, a successful businessman and father is a “monster”. Wow, you idiots really do believe all that fake news Variety/NYT/BSNBC/CNN spit out don’t you? Ever stopped to think that the same dolts telling you how bad he is are the same one who said he had NO CHANCE of winning?

      • Ahsoka says:

Good on him. I do not blame him. I wish Michael Sheen luck, and keep fighting the good fight.

And JK your comment is spot on! People refuse to learn anything from history. Maybe after a few world wars then people will finally wake up!

    • Jimmy says:

brah, you didnt read? It literally says he left ‘your country’. Also fuck your rhetoric
