Lena Dunham is taking to social media to disarm Jason Bourne.
The actress-producer shared an Instagram post from “Girls” producer Tami Sagher who asked New Yorkers to remove guns from the “Bourne” subway advertisements starring Matt Damon.
“Hey New Yorkers, what if we do some peeling and get rid of the guns in the Jason Bourne subway ads,” Sagher wrote. Dunham later shared the post, writing “Good idea…Let’s go!”
Damon, himself, has also spoken out against America’s gun violence in recent weeks. He told the Sydney Morning Herald that the U.S. government could learn a thing or two from Australia.
“You guys did it here in one fell swoop and I wish that could happen in my country, but it’s such a personal issue for people that we cannot talk about it sensibly. We just can’t,” he said.
“People get so emotional that even when you make a suggestion about not selling AK-47s to people on terror watch lists, that’s a non-starter. I don’t know what needs to happen.”
Universal’s “Bourne,” the fifth movie in the franchise, opens July 29.

The sad reality is that politicians and ignorant people don’t u set stand that if they were truly progressive, they would get rid of cars. They would fight to get rid of alcohol (didn’t we try this already), they would fight to get rid of dangerous metal contamination, they would fight to get rid of sugar, they would fight to get rid of (hold your breath) cars! Also, many of the violent “acts” with guns are suicides and accidents from ignorance. Liberal ideas are great in their proper context, but they are dead wrong with regard to second amendment issues and firearms. They can’t even see their own ignorance. By the way, these stats are taken straight from the CDC website. Guns don’t kill people any more than a car kills people. The brains behind the cars, suicides, gun deaths and murders are perpetrated by decisive action, neurological impulses sent to the extremities to perform the necessary action of killing oneself and pulling a trigger and driving a car through a crowd is not the fault of the inanimate object, but the person controlling it. Why is this so hard to see? But their solution is to rid the innocent people of firearms, who dispense their civil duties with responsibility; thus placing them in the same plane as criminals. Shameful.

Guns have been a part of American culture for 240 years.How does removing Jason Bourne’s guns stop criminals, People like Damon and his lot would like to see everyday Americans helpless against criminal. Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE CRIMINALS!!!! Do they obey laws? No. Will Matt still be as happy when his bodyguards’ guns are taken from them? I think not.
Who is Lena Dunham? I’m serious, I have never heard of her. Why would someone unknown to the public have a role in promoting censorship? I presume that there are still first amendment protections which allow advertising freedom? Besides, everyone knows that the movies are fictional stories don’t they? Mostly the guns you see are movie prop guns, and not functional firearms.

Damon is an incredible hypocrite for making millions off his gun-centric flicks and then coming out for gun control.

The only thing I can surmise about Hollywood is that they’re full of vapid know-nothings that jump on every emotional bandwagon in an attempt to remain relevant. What a joke.
What a well-informed opinion. Just so readers are aware, the AK-47 is a gun that is actually banned/illegal in the United States, so the only way to purchase that is illegal. But she wouldn’t be bothered to know that, but she is definitely someone who should be taken seriously about gun issues since she knows so much about them.

What even funnier is that you don’t have an ak47! They are not sold without a class 3 license from the atf. The true ak is fully auto and not allowed without said license and cost a lot of money. Knowledge is power.
Lena, instead of eliminating guns from the adds for the movie why not remove guns from the movie. The movie is much more likely to cause the weak mind to use guns than the adds are.
First of all I happen to own an AK-47 and all you need is a $200 tax stamp to get one. No license is required.
Now in order to get the gun you have to pay for it first (mine cost $25,0000, that is twenty five thousand dollars). After you pay for the gun a class 3 dealer holds your gun until you get your tax stamp.
In order to get you stamp the local law enforcement must approve the sale and issue a letter of approval. You also need to submit photographs and fingerprints to the BATF. After you have sent all the forms to the BATF they do a background check which can take a year (I had to wait 14 months to get the stamp for my AK-47.
So anyone can own one if they are legal in the state you live in and You have tens of thousands of dollars and are willing to spend a huge amount of money but you can’t bring the gun home until the BATF gets done with a year long background check
Think he was referring to the fact that any AK sold herein the US is not and automatic with out the own having a specific license for the kill of firearm.

But the Actor is making big money with movies who have guns of all sorts in them…. If he’s against guns, maybe he should be playing different roles.

Nobody really cares about what Lena from a tv show thinks about US politics, except maybe to rag on her uninformed and unnecessarily published comments.
This is a huge waste of journalistic platform. It’s not about publications baiting click-throughs, or desperately propping up particular persons in our colorful industry who want to air their opinions to this end. It’s the sad realization that a respected trade publication is capitulating to lowered journalistic standards.
For what it’s worth – I really appreciate the modicum of depth and counterbalance Variety provides to THR articles, and I’ve secretly hoped that Variety will rise above the cheap tone our trade papers have adopted from trashy celebrity publications. Just hoping for a miracle over here. Thanks.
