Steven Spielberg is tapping a friend of the “Indiana Jones” family to pen the next installment, hiring David Koepp to write “Indiana Jones 5.”

Earlier this week Disney announced that Spielberg would be returning to direct the next installment with Harrison Ford on board to reprise his role of the adventure-seeking archaeologist.

The film has been set to bow on July 19, 2019, so Koepp has plenty of time to pen the new chapter.

Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are joining Spielberg as producers. No plot details are known at this time, nor has a production start date been set.

Koepp wrote the last Installment in the series, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” and has previously worked with Spielberg on “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic Park: the Lost World.”

He is repped by CAA. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

Koepp also worked with Spielberg on 2005’s “War of the Worlds.”

  2. Brad says:

No Lucas involvement would be a really good move. Disney needs to set out some hard rules, no aliens, no spacecraft, no Shia, no greyed out terribly smeared looking lens work like the last one.

  3. Bill B. says:

Hope he dies in this one to put an end to this series that has produced exactly one great film, Raiders of the Lost Ark. It’s all been gradually downhill from there.

  4. Great job Steven — hire the guy who wrote some of your worst movies (Crystal Skull, Lost World, War of the Worlds, etc.). Terrible terrible terrible.

  5. Disappointed says:

Why why why why why? If Disney’s hope is to do damage control for Lucas’s sins, why are they re-hiring the Indy movie everyone hates? Get Kasdan!! What a joke.
