“Hostel” helmer Eli Roth is in talks to direct MGM and Paramount’s remake of the Charles Bronson cult hit “Death Wish.”

Bruce Willis is attached to star.

Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski penned the most recent draft with Joe Carnahan penning the original. Roger Birnbaum is producing.

The 1974 film was an adaptation of a novel by Brian Garfield and told of a man who goes on a revenge spree after his wife is killed and his daughter is sexually assaulted.

Roth made his name in the horror genre with hits like “Cabin Fever” and the “Hostel” series, but has begun to slowly transition into more studio fare. He most recently helmed the thriller “Knock Knock” starring Keanu Reeves.

Roth hasn’t left the horror genre, however, having recently written and directed the cannibal pic “The Green Inferno.”

He is repped by WME.

Eli Roth didn’t recently write and direct The Green Inferno. The movie was already several years old by the time it was released. The original company that had the rights went under and the movie was in distribution limbo for such a long time Eli Roth ended up having two movies released within weeks of each other. Hopefully Bruce Willis and Eli Roth will be a good fit. Willis can be a strong actor when he’s actually engaged and directed (Looper) but has been doing mostly very lazy work of late.
