‘Rogue One’ Writer Chris Weitz in Talks to Direct Movie on Nazi War Criminal

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” writer Chris Weitz is in early talks to direct MGM’s drama about the Israeli team that captured Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann.

The studio began developing the project last year with the purchase of Matthew Orton’s script. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Automatik are producing, and Matt Charman is exec producing.

Eichmann was in charge of the logistics of mass deportation of Jews to Nazi extermination camps in Eastern Europe during World War II. He fled to his native Austria after the war and then moved to Argentina, where he was seen in 1953 in Buenos Aires.

Eichmann was captured in 1960 by agents of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. Following a widely publicized trial in Israel, he was convicted of war crimes and executed by hanging in 1962.

Eichmann never showed any remorse for his crimes.

Weitz signed on earlier this month to adapt the screenplay for the movie “21 Years to Midnight,” about the Supreme Court’s decision last year to legalize gay marriage, for Fox 2000.

Weitz wrote the screenplay for “Cinderella” and produced and directed “A Better Life.” He also helmed “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”

Weitz is repped by WME and attorney Alex Kohner at Morris Yorn. The news about Weitz was first reported by Deadline Hollywood.
