‘Revenant,’ ‘Mad Max,’ ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Among PGA Film Nominees

'Brooklyn,' 'Ex Machina' and 'Sicario' also make the cut.

“Ex Machina” and “Straight Outta Compton” were among the nominees for the Producers Guild of America’s annual PGA Awards, joining Oscar contenders like “Spotlight,” “The Big Short” and “The Martian,” among others.

“Compton” became the highest-grossing film directed by a black filmmaker earlier this year when it topped $160 million in domestic box office receipts. The film also landed a Screen Actors Guild nomination for best performance by an ensemble in December, making a strong contender for best picture Oscar recognition.

The PGA is the only other industry group to utilize the preferential balloting system the Academy employees to determine best picture nominees and winners. The last eight winners of the PGA prize have gone on to win the best picture Oscar.

Previously announced, “Amy,” “The Hunting Ground,” “The Look of Silence,” “Meru” and “Something Better to Come” were the documentary nominees.

Also previously announced were TV nominees, including “Better Call Saul,” “Game of Thrones,” “Inside Amy Schumer” and “Silicon Valley.”

Winners will be unveiled at the 2016 PGA Awards on Jan. 23.
