Oscars Academy Awards Placeholder

Benicio Del Toro, Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg, Ryan Gosling, Kevin Hart, Lady Gaga, Sam Smith, Charlize Theron, Jacob Tremblay, The Weeknd and Pharrell Williams will be presenters or performers at the 88th Oscar ceremony, producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin announced Thursday.

Though the announcement didn’t specify, Lady Gaga, Sam Smith and the Weeknd will presumably perform their Oscar-nominated songs (from “The Hunting Ground,” “Spectre” and “Fifty Shades of Grey,” respectively).

“Each of these artists brings a wonderfully distinctive element to the Oscars stage,” said Hill and Hudlin. “Together they represent the many thrilling ways stories can be shared about the human experience, and we’re honored they will be part of the celebration.”

The Oscars, hosted by Chris Rock, will be held on Feb. 28, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network and in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.

Gosling gets snubbed once again. Blue valentine, drive, etc.

  2. Terence Duke says:

I think a dangerous precedent is at play here with Lady GAGA nominated for best song. Diane Warren has stated numerous times with slight changes in story that she had the work completed when Lady GAGA came on board. Ms Warren says “lady GAGA took it to another level by arranging the …..out of it and singing the …..out of it” Now by anybody in the music business arrangement DOES NOT constitute songwriting
Academy rule 15 section 2 part D specifically state :
    D. Only the principal composer(s) or songwriter(s) responsible for the conception and execution of the work as a whole shall be eligible for an award. Expressly excluded from eligibility are all of the following:
    1. 2.
    music supervisors
partial contributors (i.e., any writer not responsible for the overall design of the work)
    contributors working on speculation
    4. producers and/or arrangers not responsible for the creation of the original song or score

This rule specifically excludes Lady Gaga from eligitablity. Ms Warren knew the addition of Lady Gaga would added level of noteriety to the material no photos taken at pianos, will correct Ms Warrens multiple statements saying Lady GAGA came in after the work was finished and her contribution was arrangement and vocal delivery which is not what the award is for.
