Netflix Acquires Global Rights to Korean Nuclear Disaster Film ‘Pandora’

Multinational video streaming giant, Netflix has acquired international rights to “Pandora,” a South Korean nuclear disaster blockbuster from leading film production-distribution company Next Entertainment World.

The film is highly anticipated in Korea and is directed by award-winning screenwriter-turned-director Park Jung-Woo (“Deranged”).

Pandora” will be available to stream exclusively to Netflix members in 190 countries, excluding South Korea, from next year. In Korea it will have a theatrical release in December and stream from a later date.

Starring Kim Nam-Gil and Kim Young-Ae, “Pandora” sees the story of a small town blown apart by a disaster, as an unexpected earthquake hits the nuclear power plant.

“We are excited to work with Next Entertainment World to bring such high-quality Korean titles like ‘Pandora’ to our members worldwide,” said Rob Roy, VP of content acquisition at Netflix. “Netflix is committed to bringing the best of global entertainment to the world and in an era where the internet knows no bounds, this is another step towards delivering great stories to fans no matter where they live.”

“We are delighted to partner with Netflix, a world-class content distributor, to be able to present ‘Pandora’ to global audiences in over 190 countries. Following the recent success of ‘Train to Busan’ in Asia, we hope the nuclear-themed ‘Pandora’ can win much love from the audiences worldwide,” said NEW CEO Kim Woo-Taek.
