Korea Box Office: ‘Doctor Strange,’ ‘Luck-Key’ Remain on Top

There was no change at the top of the Korean box office as the top three films from the previous week, “Doctor Strange,” “Luck-key” and “Hide-and-never-seek” all held their position.

Disney’s “Strange” earned $8.15 million from between Friday and Sunday for a total of $30.5 million after two weekends. Showbox comedy “Luck-key” earned $3.35 million between Friday and Sunday to extend its total to $45.3 million after four weekends on release. A long way behind, local horror “Hide-and-never-seek” earned $348,000 for a total of $1.88 million after two weekends. The three films together accounted for 85% of the total weekend box office.

Opening on Thursday, newcomers “Hell or High Water” and “Ninninger vs Tokkyuger The Movie” landed in fourth and fifth, respectively. “High Water” earned $341,000 between Thursday and Sunday, while “Ninninger” earned $282,400 over opening five days.

Political documentary about former Korean president Roh Mu-hyun, “Mu-hyun, A Tale of two Cities” climbed to sixth from the previous week’s eighth and extended its total to $488,000 after two weekends.

Thailand’s 2014 foreign-language Oscar contender, “Teacher’s Diary” opened in seventh earning $303,000 in five days.
